World’s Greatest Mysteries – Season 2 – Episode 4: Area 51 Base: Experimental Aircraft Or Extraterrestrial Evidence
Until 2003, the U.S government denied that the military base called Area 51 even existed. Since then – perhaps due to their inability to hide the mysterious complex of buildings and runways from satellite imagery – authorities have the Air Force has an operating location on a remote tract of land in the southwestern portion of southern Nevada. The base remains, however, one of the most secretive places in the world. Area 51 is conspicuously absent from Federal publications and inquiries to the government regarding the facility are rejected for reasons of national security. A federal defense contractor maintains a private terminal at McCarran International Airport in the Las Vegas metropolitan area to shuttle workers daily to and from the base in unmarked aircraft with blacked-out windows. Commercial and private aircraft are warned they will be shot down if they fly over Area 51 and signs authorizing the use of deadly force surround the base to keep intruders away. Unmarked helicopters and Humvees are on constant patrol. This unflinching television program asks – what are they guarding? A scientist who once worked at Area 51 reports it houses confiscated UFOs. A visitor to the base claims he actually examined an alien UFO engine there. Is Area 51 a pop culture icon… or something that should interest everyone on planet Earth?
