The most extensively used, most devastating, and by far the most important weapon in the Great War was artillery. Thousands of different types of cannons were developed before and during WWI, which would change modern warfare forever. These weapons ranged from relatively small mortars to gigantic naval guns and huge German long-range siege guns dubbed Paris Guns due to the fact several of them were used to bombard Paris, France. The Germans also developed a moving battering ram that ripped through the barbed wire and trenches with ease. While the German arsenal was far more superior than that of the Allies at first, but by the end of the Great War modern weaponry had advanced on all fronts.
