
Guion “Guy” Bluford, American Hero
Guion Stewart Bluford Jr., Ph.D., is an American aerospace engineer, retired U.S. Air Force officer and fighter pilot, and former NASA astronaut, who was the first African American in space. Inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame in 1997, Dr. Bluford advised young people to “Work hard, Aim High and Chase the Dream.” Guion S. "Guy" Bluford shown at The Pennsylvania Society's 113th Annual Dinner on Dec. 10, 2011. Bluford was awarded the Society's Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement.
