After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese set their sights on other Pacific Islands, starting with New Guinea. With Operation MO, the Japanese aimed to take Port Moresby to cut off Allied communication between the U.S, Australia and New Zealand. However, the plan was thwarted when the Allies launched a successful surprise attack from the U.S.S Yorktown, called the Battle of the Coral Sea.
