Bravest Dog Alive – Lucca
Lucca, a twelve year old German shepherd, served in the US marine Corps for six years. She protected the lives of thousands of Marines by sniffing out bombs and IEDs on over 400 missions. Her service was ended with a critical injury from an IED, and she retired to live with her dog handler, Gunnery Sergeant Chris Willingham. Lucca’s heroic efforts were rewarded with the PDSA Dickin Medal, the highest award for animals serving in military conflict. Lucca and Gunnery Sergeant Chris Willingham traveled to London to accept Lucca’s award.
