Valorous TV is proud to partner with Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs. The Mighty Oaks Foundation is committed to serving the brokenhearted by providing intensive peer-based discipleship through a series of programs, outpost meetings, and speaking events. Intense peer-to-peer programs serve as the catalyst to assist our Nation’s Warriors in discovering the answers to the big questions in life, dealing with challenges related to the struggles of daily military life, combat deployments and the symptoms of post-traumatic stress (PTS).
Many of our Nation’s Warriors struggle with the hardships of military service and reintegration back into civilian life; often leaving broken homes in their aftermath and comprise one of the most at risk groups for suicide. After 18 years in the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, more than half of the 2 million Veterans struggle with physical and mental health problems stemming from their service. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, every day in America, over twenty veterans commit suicide. The V.A. Hotline receives an average of 400 calls per day. 2018 marked the highest military active duty suicide rate in 10 years. At the same time, the divorce rate among active military personnel and returning Veterans is staggering, impacting Veterans, as well as their families. Many combat vets are unable to reintegrate back into civilian life leaving their families to work through the aftermath.
Mighty Oaks tackles this critical issue with peer-to-peer resiliency and recovery programs offered at no cost to honored service men and women. The Mighty Oaks Warrior journey begins with intensive peer based programs that utilize instructional sessions, camaraderie, and team building activities that are designed to challenge our Warriors to overcome their past experiences and move forward into a life of purpose. Programs take place all across America on Military Bases, at Mighty Oaks Outposts, and on rural ranch lodges. Each facility allows the Warriors to appreciate the peace of nature, and have an “un-plugged” experience while they focus on the challenges they face in completing the program.
At the core of Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs are Program Mentors and Peer Leaders; Mentors are military veterans who are trained and bring experienced Biblical counsel to each of the programs. They provide Biblical oversight, are on site counsel for both students and peer leaders and they function to transition each individual student into an aftercare plan and network. Each Peer Leader attends as a participant before being selected to be trained and return as leadership within the program. That means all Peer Leaders work directly with the men or women who come through the Legacy Programs from a position of experience and understanding. That experience encompasses combat experience, Post Traumatic Stress and day-to-day life issues. That also means that Peer Leaders function in a “peer-to-peer” capacity which translates into a voice of compassion, patience and experience. Men PLs come from all military branches with a variety of MOS’s represented. Women PLs also have a dynamic background ranging from spouses of combat veterans and military who have served or are currently serving. All those who come through The Mighty Oaks program are treated the way you would expect a fellow veteran, a fellow warrior, in a way they would expect to be treated:
We don’t coddle, nor do we treat those who attend as victims because we reject the idea that veterans are victims of their service. The same is true for our women’s program, as we outline the biblical blueprint for virtuous womanhood. We treat those who come to our programs as warriors who need to get back in the fight because there are things in life worth fighting for.
